Text ´ × Albert Speer

E of Hitler's Minister of Armaments and War Production and offers insigh Whatever your views on Speer particularly as to whether his admissions of guilt at the end of the war were genuine or a simple case of self preservation his account of Hitler's inner circle and the way in which government was conducted during this period I find simply fascinating Speer does come over as a reasonably sane observer watching an utterly insane situationAnd seeing the parallels with the world we currently inhabit are vital if we are to understand what is happening to us today History of course whilst repeating itself is never uite the same; characters and identities often swap places with one another What is most useful is to see how ordinary Germans including Speer himself could believe everything was OK when to a detached observer it so clearly was not

Inside the Third Reich MemoirsA history of National Socialist Germany is presented from the perspectiv Haven't committed to reading a book in years I love history especially WWII and decided to give this one a try I will admit I was uite intimidated by the size of this book initially at 500 pages but once I started reading it I couldn't put it down I've gotten out of this one book than all the documentaries I've watched in my lifetime The commonly held reality is that the Nazi's came very very close to winning the war While I still believe that I've learned now that the real reason they lost is because of the poor leadership in their system The sick selfish and wasteful nature of those with power is vividly illustrated in this document I now thank God that Hitler didn't take his men in command seriously Had he been down to earth the world would be a different placeSome have debated whether or not Albert Speer should have hanged Did Speer paint himself as a saint in this book? We can speculate one way or the other forever as to the guilt of the man Honestly his eternal fate rests between him and the Almighty I feel that his story shows how far a normal person can get sucked into something because of their blind ambitionI just wish I would have been made to read this in school instead of Harry Potter and the Catcher in the Rye Teachers take note
